One could describe the Quercus bicolor, also known as the Swamp White Oak Tree, as an easy-going tree. It thrives in zones 4 through 7, but is no stranger to zones 2 and 8 in isolation. This tree has no soil preference. It can withstand flooding, poor drainage, or dry areas, and soil compaction is not an issue either. The Swamp White Oak Tree can grow 49 to 98 feet, and is a great provider of shade which makes sense as it is commonly planted in parks and recreation areas. Its acorns, as well as its canopy, attract a diverse array of wildlife, and when its leaves wither and die, the debris can be used as an insect repellent mulch.
